The Firm

Montroll, Backus & Oettinger, P.C., is pleased to announce our new Administrative Assistant, Alexandra Sturges. Alex grew up in South Hero, Vermont. She graduated from The Culinary Institute of America’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program in 2010 with an Associate’s Degree. She then earned a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies in 2015 from Champlain College. Alex has competed at the regional and national level at the USA Yoga Asana Championships, and is currently ranked 25th in the country. She completed her 500 hour RYT Teacher Training in California last year and currently teaches Bikram yoga. Additionally, she hopes to read for the bar exam, and practice law in Vermont.

We are also pleased to announce our new Special Projects Assistant, Jennifer Carter. Jenny is a first year undergraduate at the University of Vermont studying Community and International Development and is originally from Rockland, Maine. She has served on the board of the nonprofit organization Trekkers, located in Rockland, and is involved in the UVM chapter of Design for America. She plans to work in the field of sustainable international development and hopes to build a career influencing public policy.

 

Mark Oettinger

On January 9, 2017, Mark was named the Vice Chair Elect of the Vermont Counsel on World Affairs at the Executive Committee Meeting.

Mark attended the annual Vermont Bar Association meeting in Montreal January 13 to 15.

On January 29, 2017, Mark helped lead the congregation-driven services at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Burlington, followed by the monthly Pro Bono Legal Clinic. The next Pro Bono Legal Clinic will be on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at First Congregational Church.

 

Andy Montroll

On January 26, 2017, Andy completed a trial in the Environmental Court and is currently awaiting a decision from the judge.

Andy was asked by the Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) to speak at a seminar in NYC next month regarding Telecom Technology and Multifamily Buildings.

 

Michelle Mraz

Michelle served on the Organizing Committee for the Women’s March on Montpelier and Unity Rally on January 21, 2017. It was the largest demonstration in the history of the state.

Michelle is representing Ward 6 on the Community Development Block Grant Application Review Committee for the City of Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Office.

Michelle has the endorsement of Burlington’s Democratic Party to appear on the ballot for the position of Inspector of Elections on Town Meeting Day on March 8, 2017.

 

Randy Amis

On January 9, 2017, Randy attended the monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting of Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) of which he is the Chair of the Board.

On January 19, 2017, Randy attended the Annual Reorganizational Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Intervale Center, of which he is the new chair of the Governance Committee.

On January 23, 2017, Randy met with the Fundraising Committee for St. Joseph’s School Project of Champlain Housing Trust, of which he is the interim Chair, while Chair Peter Clavelle is away for an extended, and well deserved, vacation.
